Magnificent Pair of Antique Life- Size Lion Statues in Cast Iron

Regular price $15,000.00
These life size 5 foot long lions would make impressive statue pair for a downtown Government office.
Each lion has a handsome fierce face with amazing details. These lions are the largest cast iron pieces I have ever seen. The workmanship is amazing. This statue is a gorgeously detailed representation of this symbolic animal. This magnificent pair of cast iron lions are each standing on a concrete base.

Formidable lions, symbols of strength and power, for ages have stood guard at front gates, warding off evil and protecting temples, palaces, government buildings and mansions of high officials and powerful families.

Classically posed and full of rapture, this pair of life-sized lions are an heirloom investment for generations to come. Just imagine these statues majestically standing guard at any home or garden. Every detail, from their handsome mane to the details of their face, is skillfully captured .

The Lion is held to represent a noble nature from its strength and aristocratic appearance. Lion statues, a male and a female making a pair, are traditionally carved from marble or granite, some even cast in bronze or iron.

The provenance is that they originally came from the Morning View mansion in Montgomery, Alabama. The M. B. Houghton family owned the house and several acres around the home. It was at Ann Street and Atlanta Hwy and considered quite a showplace. After the family moved or died, it was sold several times. I don't know the exact date but I'm sure it was right after WWII or the early 50's. Parts of the land was sold off. That's probably when the lions and other parts of the estate were sold. A pair of the driveway columns are in front of a home on Thomas Ave. Apartments were built in the front of it on the front lawn. It was magnificent then. Vagrants began living in it and started a fire one night and it burned down. See more in our Antiques Blog.
