Antique Butler Desk / Cabinet - American 1880

Regular price $1,100.00

The Butler desk has decorated elements of classical style and fine artistry with nice wood veneer and craftsmanship. A lovely cabinet that would accent any prominent home.

Butler’s Desk details: The details on this Butler’s Desk are lovely. It is constructed of mahogany veneer. Unique drop down top drawer to reveal desk area. The top drawer opens to reveal a hidden desk compartment that consists of storage slots and numerous petite horizontal drawers with small knob pulls. When the panel is up, it conceals a network of small doors, cubbies, shelves and/or drawers used for organizing documents, and storing writing implements and paper. Desks with fall or drop-fronts remain an excellent choice for small rooms where a writing surface comes in handy but making space for a table or full-sized desk isn’t an option. The writing surface is covered with a green felt. Ample storage is found in the three bottom drawers with wood pulls, brass key escutcheons and locks. Elegant turned feet are found on this handsome writing desk. Unfortunately we do not have a key for them.

circa 1880's.

Dimensions:  43"H x 42W x 22"D

(This cabinet was from my parent's collection and stood for 50 years in their home amidst many antiques.)

Condition: Shows appropriate use wear, markings, veneer chipping and distressing - see pictures. It does not impair integrity. Any antique over 100 years old will have some type of slight or minor imperfections or marks of character…and these time-acquired features often intrigue collectors to ponder about how the piece must have been used and by whom.  Such marks of use and character I think, add to the authenticity, charm, and desirability of the piece. The desk is in need of a good cleaning.
