Camel Steamer Trunk.
Plenty of storage space. Arched top. This simply is a very nice original trunk. These trunks were the workhorses of that period. Many manufacturers around the world put them out in vast numbers. It is, I believe, also called a Stave Trunk. It has vertical running slats (The word "stave" in this case refers to the wood slats.) These trunks were mostly made from the late 1860's until about the mid 1880. What a great trunk for being over 100 years old!
Condition: It has definitely been used over the years and shows signs of visual wear. There are some nicks and various water spots but quite minor really for its age and adds character to this antique trunk.
These trunks were very popular in the days when they were new. Most trunks are of this type had drawers and even hangers. Some fancier ones have fold down desks, ironing boards, briefcases and other accessories.
