Antique Flat Trunk. Plenty of storage space. This simply is a very nice original trunk. These trunks were the workhorses of that period. Many manufacturers around the world put them out in vast numbers. The classic flat top trunks with metal background and hardwood staves. Their basic shape and design is a rectangular box covered sheet metal and then hardwood staves, metal trim and hardware. Some flat tops of this type were covered in sheet metal between the staves. Most had trays inside but the trays were usually not made nearly as sturdily as the trunks themselves, therefore many found today will be missing the tray.It is, I believe, also called a Stave Trunk. It has horizontal running slats. (The word "stave" in this case refers to the wood slats.)
Condition: It has definitely been used over the years and shows signs of visual wear. There are some nicks and various water spots but quite minor really for its age and adds character to this antique trunk.
These trunks were very popular in the days when they were new.
