Lovely pair of cockatoo figurines made by Augarten during the 20th century. Art Deco Style. Very well modeled showing all the details. Each bird is about 4-5 inches tall and about 5 inches long. Marked underneath with the blue shield with the crown on top as well as the word "Wien" underneath and words "Made in Austria". Each bird is superbly modeled and hand painted to perfection.
#1 Cockatoo painters number is 28 painted in brown. He has a grey beak, yellow crest and is sitting on top of a grey tree branch. The figure is marked underneath with the blue shield with the crown on top as well as the word "Wien".
#2 Cockatoo looking down - painters number is embossed 66 and 82 painted in green "Made in Austria". He is looking down and perched on top of a grey tree stump decorated with green berries.
“Wien” translates as “Vienna”, the capital city of Austria. Augarten Factory - Formerly the State Porcelain works in Vienna (closed 1864), the Wiener Porzellanfabrik Augarten was set up in 1922 as the successor to the former Imperial company. It makes figures and porcelain, mostly reproductions of earlier Vienna porcelain, and uses the banded shield or beehive mark with a crown and the words "Augarten Wien". The porcelain factory at Augarten in Vienna has been in production for almost 300 years.
